Simeon is headed to the Chicago Public League Championship and they are doing it at full strength. After missing several players in their quarterfinal win, the Wolverines got those players back and used big games from stars Jabari Parker and Steve Taylor to notch a 61-51 win over Orr.
Kendrick Nunn, one of the suspended players, nailed a three in the first quarter to give Simeon a 15-12 lead and would prove to be the game winning shot. Nunn finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds while Jaylon Tate (6 points, 4 rebounds) and Jelani Neely (8 points) played solid roles in their return to the court.
However, the reason Simeon won and the reason why they are in the position they find themselves in is their junior swingman Jabari Parker. The No. 1 player in the class of 2013 had a slightly less impressive game that in the quarterfinals, but still poured in 19 points and added 6 rebounds, 6 blocks, and three steals.
Parker is a perennial tripe-double threat and when surrounded by more quality players has the ability to create for others. The fact that he put up the line he did and left us wanting is a testament to how high our expectations for this young man are.
Marquette-bound Steve Taylor contributed 13 points and 9 rebounds.
The Wolverines will play Curie in the City Championship, a game they have not played in since 2007 with Derrick Rose. Simeon defeated Curie back in late December in the Pontiac Holiday Tournament championship, 44-27.
